There are two key ingredients required for our Republic to thrive: a free press and an informed electorate.
Press shies away from controversial topics because governments pay big money to run ads in their papers and the press knows who butters their bread. This is corruption of the press. Our founding fathers wrote the bill of rights to enable the “Free Press” to keep their eyes on government to keep them accountable to the people, not collaborate with government, who usurps power and greed. Lord Acton said, “power corrupts. absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
We need the press to hold government accountable or they do things the people do not know and we end up with corrupted government officials who work for their select friends to hold on to power and their greediness.
